Sharing Our Joys and Concerns

* Call to Worship     adapted from Psalm 32   (Read responsively)

Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.

Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.

For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.

For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer.

I acknowledged my sin to You, and I did not cover my iniquity;

I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the Lord," and You forgave the iniquity of my sin.

Therefore let everyone who is godly offer prayer to You at a time when You may be found.

You are a hiding place for me; You preserve me from trouble; You surround me with shouts of deliverance.

Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous!

Shout for joy, all you upright in heart!

* Affirmation of Faith        “The Apostle’s Creed”

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.  AMEN.

Invitation to Confession

Admitting Our Sin to God

We turn to You, O God and find our lips silent; we seek to praise You and our hearts are strangely empty; we yearn to pray but we find our lives are collapsed until You come to us. Forgive us, we pray, and protect us from the distractions of every novelty and diversion until we learn how to meditate upon the plain miracles which sustain us all the day long. Discipline us that we may find that communion of peace and joy in which we know our sin is forgiven, and the burden of guilt lifted from us by the power of Your grace through Jesus Christ.    (silent, personal confession)  AMEN
