Sharing Our Joys and Concerns

* Call to Worship     adapted from Psalm 9        (Read responsively)

The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed.

He is a fortress in times of trouble.

And those who know Your name put their trust in You,

For You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.

Sing praises to the Lord, Who sits enthroned in Zion!

Tell among the peoples His deeds!

For He Who avenges blood is mindful of them;

He does not forget the cry of the afflicted.

* Affirmation of Faith        “The Apostle’s Creed”

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic* church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.  AMEN.                                         *universal

* Prayer of Invocation

* Hymn of Adoration                 “All That Thrills My Soul”               Red Book # 511

Invitation to Confession

Admitting Our Sin to God

O God Who makes all things new, we have forgotten how to live in watchful expectation for the return of Your Son and the coming of Your kingdom in its fullness. We let our familiar routines and the length of the wait sap our confidence and spiritual vitality. In the hum-drum stuff of daily living we forget Who You are and what You are making us to be. O Father in heaven, for the sake of Jesus Christ, forgive us for our wrong priorities and dullness of spirit. Restore our hope and strength of spirit. Remind us who we are. Above all, remind us Who Jesus Christ is. We ask in His name.  (time of silent, personal confession)   AMEN

Assurance of Pardon

    Leader   . . . Friends, believe the Good News of the Gospel!

    ALL:            In Jesus Christ we are forgiven

* Responding with Praise                    “Gloria Patri”                      Blue Book # 579

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning; is now and ever shall be. World without end, Amen! Amen!

Time with Young Disciples

Prayers of the People and the Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.  AMEN.
