Sharing Our Joys and Concerns

* Call to Worship    adapted from Psalm 139    (Read responsively)

Search us, O God, and know our hearts!

Try us and know our thoughts!

And see if there be any grievous way in us,

and lead us in the way everlasting!

* Affirmation of Faith        “The Apostle’s Creed”

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.  AMEN.

* Prayer of Invocation

* Hymn of Adoration             “Come, Christians Join to Sing”        Red Book # 225

Invitation to Confession

Admitting Our Sin to God

Faithful God, we are people of unclean lips living in the midst of a people of unclean lips. We confuse our will with Yours. We imagine that our priorities are eternal. We mask our selfish desires at the cost of expediency and injustice. Come in Your power, O God, and still our noisy, boisterous, stormy selves. Come with mercy and cast out the many evils which divide Your church and torment us with fears and contradictions. Come with grace and transform our dreams and deeds into faithful witness. Come with love and bind us in the fellowship of Your forgiven children everywhere. Hear our prayer and grant us a new chance at life. Through Christ we pray.  (silent, personal confession)  AMEN
