Sharing Our Joys and Concerns

* Call to Worship    adapted from Psalm 119       (Read responsively)

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

I have sworn an oath and confirmed it, to keep Your righteous rules.

I am severely afflicted; give me life, O Lord, according to Your word!

Accept my freewill offerings of praise, O Lord, and teach me Your rules.

I hold my life in my hand continually, but I do not forget Your law.

The wicked have laid a snare for me, but I do not stray from Your precepts.

Your testimonies are my heritage forever, for they are the joy of my heart.

I incline my heart to perform Your statutes forever, to keep them to the very end.

* Affirmation of Faith        “The Apostle’s Creed”

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.  AMEN.

* Prayer of Invocation

* Hymn of Adoration             “In the Cross of Christ I Glory”          Red Book # 328

Invitation to Confession

Admitting Our Sin to God

O God, we confess that we forget who we are. We don't listen for a still small voice. We walk with our heads down and miss all the stars that could be ours. But we know, O God, that You are a God of hope who remembers His covenant and keeps His promises; a Shepherd-God who looks for lost sheep; a faithful God who continually calls us in spite of our deafness; a compassionate God Who sent His Son into this world and its history, opening our eyes and healing our blindness. O God, hear our confession of sin, our cry for mercy and restoration. Father, help us to a fresh and true obedience. For the sake of Jesus Christ the Lord.  (silent, personal confession)  AMEN
