Sharing Our Joys and Concerns

* Call to Worship   adapted from Psalm 147    (Read responsively)

Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem!  Praise your God, O Zion!

For He strengthens the bars of your gates; He blesses your children within you.

He makes peace in your borders; He fills you with the finest of the wheat.

He sends out His command to the earth; His word runs swiftly.

He gives snow like wool; He scatters frost like ashes.

He hurls down His crystals of ice like crumbs: Who can stand before His cold?

He sends out His word, and melts them; He makes His wind blow and the waters flow.

He declares His word to Jacob, He proclaims His statutes and rules to Israel.

He has not dealt thus with any other nation; they do not know His rules.

ALL:  Praise the Lord!

* Affirmation of Faith        “The Apostle’s Creed”

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.  AMEN.

* Prayer of Invocation

* Hymn of Adoration               “O Come, All Ye Faithful”                Red Book # 249

Invitation to Confession

Admitting Our Sin to God

Father in heaven, we confess that we have fallen far short of the standard for loving which Your Son Jesus demonstrated, taught, and lived at the cost of His own life. We live more like the descendants of Adam than like children and heirs of the Redeemer and King of creation. Lord our God, we acknowledge our sinful nature and confess our sinful acts. We desire to be obedient, and we meekly await Your moving to restore us to fellowship with You, and the rekindling of joy at the salvation You have made ours through Jesus Christ the Lord. In His name.  (silent, personal confession)  AMEN

The Lord be with you. And also with you.

Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.  It is right to give our thanks and praise.

...

Holy God, we praise You. Let the heavens be joyful, and the earth be glad.

We bless You for creating the whole world, for Your promises to Your people Israel, and for Jesus Christ in Whom Your fullness dwells.

Born of Mary, He shares our life.

Eating with sinners, He welcomes us.

Guiding Your children, He leads us.

Visiting the sick, He heals us.

Dying on the cross, He saves us.

Risen from the dead, He gives new life.

Sitting at Your right hand, He prays for us.
