Welcome and Announcements

Sharing Our Joys and Concerns

* Call to Worship        (adapted from Psalm 71)

In You, O Lord, do we take refuge;  let us never be put to shame!

In Your righteousness deliver us and rescue us;

incline Your ear to us, and save us!

Be to us a rock of refuge, to which we may continually come;

You have given the command to save us, for You are our rock and our fortress.

Rescue us, O our God, from the hand of the wicked,

Free us from the grasp of the unjust and cruel man.

For You, O Lord, are our hope,  our trust, O Lord, from our Youth.

Upon You we have leaned from before our birth;

You are He who took us from our mothers wombs.

Our praise is continually of You.

* Affirmation of Faith        The Apostles Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection

of the body; and the life everlasting.  AMEN.

* Prayer of Invocation

* Hymn of Adoration                           Awesome God                 Red Book # 179

Invitation to Confession

Admitting Our Sin to God

Almighty God, we live in Your world forgetting that it is now a fallen creation with much that operates contrary to Your holy will. We fail to see how the things You intended to be blessings have been perverted and twisted by our sin. We use them as avenues for rebellion and defiance of a Holy God. Though You have redeemed us in Jesus Christ, we are too much at home with this world as it is, and we even willingly participate in its corruption and uncleanness.  We confess our sinful nature and admit our participation in evil, rebellion, and sloth. Hear and forgive us, we pray, for the sake of Jesus Christ.  (time of silent, personal confession)  AMEN

Assurance of Pardon

Prayers of the People and the Lords Prayer

Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Please sign the blue attendance pad and join us in the Fellowship Hall for coffee and light refreshments following the worship service.

WELCOME, PASTOR MARK - Rev. Mark Spence, honorably retired from the Presbyterian Church in America, is leading our worship service today in the absence of Pastor Ray, who is on vacation. Pastor Mark is a long-time friend and colleague of Pastor Ray, and has retired to the Texas Hill Country.

FIRST SUNDAY - Please remember to bring your contributions for local outreach organizations next Sunday, September 6th and place them in the baskets located under the old pew in the Narthex.

NEXT SUNDAY - We will celebrate the Lord’s Supper. In the Presbyterian Church (USA), all who sincerely trust in Jesus Christ and Him alone, for the forgiveness of sin, are invited to partake, including baptized children with parental permission.
