Sharing Our Joys and Concerns

* Call to Worship    adapted from Psalm 27   (Read responsively)

The Lord is my light and my salvation;

whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of my life;

of whom shall I be afraid?

When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes,

it is they who stumble and fall.

Though an army encamp against me,

my heart shall not fear.

Though war arise against me;

yet I will be confident.

* Affirmation of Faith        “The Apostle’s Creed”

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.  AMEN.

* Prayer of Invocation

* Hymn of Adoration        All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name”        Red Book # 43

Invitation to Confession

Admitting Our Sin to God

God of all, we want life to be easy and simple. We prefer to see what is ahead and to know exactly what is coming next. If we are honest, we should say we want to simply coast into Your Kingdom. We want our own way. Father, forgive us for our lack of diligence and vigor, for “walking by sight rather than by faith,” and for neglecting Jesus' warning that the Christian life is a life of trial and struggle. Forgive us for preferring our way to Your way. Father, for the sake of Jesus hear us, forgive us and restore to us the joy of walking in faithfulness.  (silent, personal confession)  AMEN

Assurance of Pardon

* Responding with Praise               “Gloria Patri”                            Blue Book #579

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning; is now and ever shall be. World without end, Amen! Amen!
