Sharing Our Joys and Concerns

* Call to Worship  adapted from Psalm 40   (Read responsively)

I waited patiently for the Lord;

He inclined to me and heard my cry.

He drew me up from the pit of destruction.

He lifted me out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.

He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.

Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.

Blessed are they who make the Lord their trust,

who do not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie!

* Affirmation of Faith        “The Apostle’s Creed”

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.  AMEN.

* Prayer of Invocation

* Hymn of Adoration                  "How Great Thou Art”                  Red Book # 147

Invitation to Confession

Admitting Our Sin to God

Most holy and merciful Father, we acknowledge and confess before You our sinful nature prone to evil, our apathy in doing good, and all our other shortcomings and offenses. You alone know how often we have sinned in wandering from Your ways, in wasting Your gifts, in forgetting Your love. But You, O Lord, have mercy upon us who are ashamed and sorry for all in which we have displeased You. Teach us to hate our errors and cleanse us from our secret faults.  And forgive our sins for the sake of Your dear Son. And, most holy and loving Father, help us, we implore You to live in Your light and walk in Your ways according to the commandments of Jesus Christ our Lord.  (silent, personal confession)   Amen
